The Last Airbender Super Bowl Ad

Ahhhh! A new promo for The Last Airbender is set to air during the super bowl. I’ve mentioned The Last Airbender a few times before but never in great detail. The film is based of the highly popular cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender. Originally The Last Airbender was due to be called just Avatar but you see how that could cause problems.

Avatar The Last Airbender takes place in a world divided by four nations, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, the Water Tribes, and Air Nomads. Each nation has its own type of martial arts that let them bend the elements. All of the kingdoms are watched over by The Avatar. A guardian who keeps the nations in balance. When the Avatar dies he is reincarnated and the position is passed from each nation one by one. When The Last Airbender takes place The Avatar has been missing for over 100 years and the ruthless Fire Nation has waged war on the other kingdoms, including having completely decimated the Air Nomads. At the start of the film two teenagers from the Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka, in the north pole find a boy frozen in a block of ice. They quickly discover the boy, Aang, is the last Airbender alive and might be keeping a deep secret.

I’m super excited for this film. I had some doubts in the beginning but after these few teaser trailers I’m starting to gain some confidence. The movie is set to be released July 2! Check it out!

Also if you’re a complete nerd like me, look for Appa in the upper left hand corner at the 0.07 mark. You can see him waving his paw. Appa!!!

Clash of the Titans: International Trailer

With a little bit more dialogue and a little bit less sex scene, this new international trailer has me believing that Clash of the Titans is going to be truly epic!!!

Oscar Nominations!

Here they are complete with my approvals and rants…

Best Picture:

Avatar

The Blind Side

District 9

An Education

The Hurt Locker

Inglourious Bastards

Precious

A Serious Man

Up

Up in the Air

Please god please let Inglourious Bastards, District 9, or UP win. Any of those movies truly deserve it, but WTF is Avatar doing on this list. I knew it was probably coming but I was hoping that the Oscar’s wasn’t actually going to be this retarded. Okay don’t get me wrong Avatar is a good movie. It is fun, the action is awesome, and the special effects are pretty cool, but it is not even close to the best picture of the year. You can’t remake Pocahontas and pretend it’s original! Pisses me off! Oh and for things left off, Avatar over Star Trek, really?

Best Actor:

Jeff Bridges: Crazy Heart

George Clooney: Up in the Air

Colin Firth: A Single Man

Morgan Freeman: Invictus

Jeremy Renner: The Hurt Locker

Choices, choices. Now I know it’s terrible to admit this but I haven’t actually seen any of these films. If I have to choose however, I would of course choose Morgan Freeman, purely because he’s the man. My second choice would be Jeremy Renner, and that’s only because I adored him in The Unusuals for the five seconds it was one the air. But seriously it’s Morgan Freeman, they have to right?

Best Actress:

Sandra Bullock: The Blind Side

Helen Mirren: The Last Station

Carey Mulligan: An Education

Gabourey Sidibe: Precious

Meryl Streep: Julie & Julia

Again I don’t have super strong feelings on this one except for a few things. One, Sandra Bullock was also nominated for a Razzie for her role of a football mom in The Blind Side. Now I saw this movie and I don’t think she was the worst actress of the year, but it certainly proves to me that she doesn’t deserve an oscar. Now Meryl Streep did a wonderful job playing Julia Childs in Julie & Julia I suppose, but she also annoyed the shit out of me for over an hour and half so I’ll say no to that too. So whose left? I suppose I’m voting for Gabourey Sidibe. Why, because she has and awesome name and Precious was an awesome movie.

Best Supporting Actor:

Matt Damon: Invictus

Woody Harrelson: The Messenger

Christopher Plummer: The Last Station

Stanley Tucci: The Lovely Bones

Christoph Waltz: Inglourious Bastards

Christoph Waltz FTW! Did you see him in Inglourious Bastards?! The man scared the shit out of me… Would you like  a glass of milk?

Best Supporting Actress:

Penelope Cruz: Nine

Vera Farmiga: Up in the Air

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Crazy Heart

Anna Kendrick: Up in the Air

Mo’Nique: Precious

My first choice would be Maggie Gyllenhaal just because I adore her and always will. Second would be Penelope Cruz because she really did rock it out in Nine.

Best Director:

Kathryn Bigelow: The Hurt Locker

James Cameron: Avatar

Lee Daniels: Precious

Jason Reitman: Up in the Air

Quentin Tarantino: Inglourious Bastards

James Cameron can go eff himself. Quentin Tarantino all the way!!!

So in all, I’m pretty pleased with the results. If Avatar would of been a little bit more absent I would of liked it better.

What do you think guys? Who are your choices?

Deadliest Catch’s Captain Phil Suffers Stroke

Phil Harris, captain of the Cornelia Marie, and one of the most popular captains on Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch has suffered a stroke. There are no real details, other than he has been hospitalized. Although the news is sad, it is hardly suprising to Deadliest Catch fans who have watched as Phil has fought illness through much of the show. In Season 4 the captain suffered through a pulmonary embolism while out at sea, and America sat and watched as he tried to hide the dire situation from his two sons who also work on the boat. He made it through that and I hope he can make it thorough this.

This goes out to you Phil. I love you bunches and I hope you recover quickly.

Also, STOP SMOKING!

Save Fringe!

First let me say, FOX can go suck it! I hate this freaking channel and if I were any sort of clever, unique, and or science fiction inspired show I would stay far far far away. See FireFly, Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Dollhouse.

Now, of course Fringe is on the chopping block. I adore this show and the thought of it being canceled literally sends me into a great depression. FOX has done all it can to ensure that this show fails. First off they have it airing on Thursdays, one of the most packed days show wise with Project Runway, The Mentalist, American Idol, Survivor, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, and The Office. Why can’t you put Fringe on a completely empty night FOX?!?  Now they’ve even made things worse has decided to put the show on a 2 month break in the middle of the freaking season to make way for American Idol. Shows can’t survive like that FOX! I just don’t understand. FOX never supports or  nurtures it’s shows but instead just dooms them to fail.

Do everything you can to help Fringe. If you’ve never seen the show do so now. It is another sci-fi masterpiece from JJ Abrams and on top of that has one of the best will-they-won’t they couples on television.  I hope to god it gets renewed.

I’m going to go cry in a corner now.

Lady GaGa!!!

For those of you who follow me on Twitter you might know that Lady GaGa came to my university last night!!! Actually it was her 2nd time at Purdue since about 2 weeks ago she came and, after the two opening acts, canceled suddenly. She apparently had ‘dehydration’ and collapsed. All the students, including me, were upset but it was slightly made up for by the fact that she rescheduled. And actually because of it, Purdue was officially the last show of the Monster Ball US tour.

The whole experience was amazing. Sooooo many people dressed up, including me and my friends. Although we weren’t as crazy as some people. I was just wearing a crazy sparkly dress but I saw plenty of people in tutus, speedos, and even full Lady GaGa outfits like The Red Queen that she wore to the VMA’s. We had pretty epic seats too. We weren’t alllll the way in the front which would of been sweet but I would say about 15-20 rows back. Enough that I could see no problem and that’s all that mattered.

The opening acts were pretty sweet especially Semi Precious Weapons. There’s something about glam metal that goes so well with Gaga. Especially when the band is fronted by a 6 foot blond bisexual crazy man. The lead sing Justin Tranter got completely naked on stage, poured champagne on people, and even got one girl to show him her tits to win a necklace off his neck. I, of course, had to buy one of their shirts. It says “I can’t pay my rent but I’m fucking gorgeous!” Watch the video HERE! Of course after they got as all riled up it was Lady GaGa time. She opened up her show with a count down which I thought was a pretty genius way to build the tension.

As for the actual concert it was pretty epic and hard to put all of it into words. Lady Gaga went all out with numerous crazy costume changes and huge projector screens covering all the walls and playing images before and during the songs. There was even a crazy moment where I realized that one of her back up dancers was Mark from SYTYCD! Lady GaGa had moving stage parts, crazy lights, a giant revolving ball, and even at one point was lifted up by a light rigging into the air. I do have to say that after the whole heath scare she worried me a few times. Keep in mind she doesn’t lip sync, has crazy fast costume changes, and does all that choreography, but still at least  at one point, I was like ‘Oh please god don’t fall over,” because of how fragile she looked. In any case it was awesome, she was awesome, so epic!

Sorry I’ve been slow to update lately damn school and now a job! Siiigh but I need the monies. Anyway luvs you all. The vid below is not from my concert but is just to show you guys how awesome it was! =D

Double Trouble

Well not so much trouble as utter hotness. I’ve been pretty busy this week so I don’t have a lot of time to post, but I thought I should let you know that Eli Roth and Zachary Quinto are the same person.

TV Newbies: The Deep End

I knew that The Deep End was supposed to have the same premise as Grey’s Anatomy. You know, young people trying to balance difficult careers and their personal lives. Only this time it would be lawyers instead of doctors. What I didn’t know that it was pretty much Grey’s Anatomy exactly…only worse.

I watched the pilot tonight and it wasn’t terrible but there wasn’t anything that caught my attention either. I really wanted to like it too, especially since Tina Majorino was starring and I’ve loved her since the good old Veronica Mars days. The plot was all over the place and boring and the characters were a contrived snooze. Let me say I believe in character archetypes. The key to a show is to base your character on an archetype but then find an actor that can actually pull it off. Say what you want about Grey’s Anatomy but it made audiences forget that they’ve probably seen these characters before and ensnared women from all over in the Meridith/McDreamy romance.

So to make it clear here we go…

Characters from Grey’s Anatomy = Characters from The Deep End

Addy Fisher = George

We’ll start with the best. Tina Majorino is the only bright spot of this show. While her character, Addy, and George are practically the same, at least Tina pulls it off just as well as T.R. Night. Addy is the sweet, shy, and befuddled character. Overlooked by both her bosses and coworkers, she spends most of the episode trying to gain confidence in herself and her work. Sound familiar? I also sense that in the coming episodes Addy will gain more and more of a crush on her co-worker Dylan. I pretty much guarantee he won’t notice though. Ah la the whole George/Meredith storyline.

Dylan Hewitt = McDreamy

Cute. Loveable. Boy Scout. Basically the hero of the show. He showed up to the job 10 days late and yet no one seemed to really care for more than 10 seconds. He has a slight in with one of the older partners in the business and he spent the episode taking a pro bono case and having an ethical dilemma. Honestly the man bores the shit out of me. The “perfect man” character was pretty much perfected by Patrick Demsey and no one can really compare. It’s tough to play a good honest character without making him freaking boring.

Liam Priory = McSteamy

What is this magical power that both these characters seem to have on women? At least with Dr. Sloan I can partly understand the attraction but, besides the accent, I can’t understand why the women of this show were falling all over this guy. Liam didn’t do much more in this episode then have sex with a secretary and use his magical woman seeking powers to both gain and then lose a client after lying about being jewish. Did he get in trouble for losing the client? No of course not, why would he?

Beth Bancroft = Meredith/Christina

Oh Beth, you combine both of the qualities of Meredith and Christiana all without getting out any where close to the awesomeness of Sandra Oh. Beth has the bad family problems of Meredith, including the legacy of talent and the unloving and uncaring parent. She also has the bitchy go for it attitude of Christina but in a not so nearly clever way. The show doesn’t really commit to the character so she’s more just slightly bitchy but mostly wish washy. She spent most of the episode telling Addy to buck up and also having an ethical dilemma. Are we sensing a theme here?

As for the other characters, I either remember them and don’t care like Billy Zane’s character Cliff, an overbearing womanizing asshole, or they completely passed by my radar.  From what I do recall there’s the head of the company who is neither really introduced or fully explained other than that he is the opposite of Zane’s character, the some what bitchy woman married to Cliff, some dude whose apparently Dylan’s mentor and caught between Cliff and head-company-boss-dude, and, finally, there’s the random extra first year. The only reason I mention him is because he is played by Mehcad Brooks from True Blood. He was the only other reason I decided to watch this show which apparently was a mistake since he was only in literally 5 seconds of the show.

So to recap. The plot was boring, the characters contrived, and I’m not really sure if I’m going to turn in for episode two.

What about you guys? Did you watch it? What did you think?
